Go to the Australian independent broadband site http://www.whirlpool.net.au/

You can input your number and select from all available services at you home

You can filter the resulting list by price, etc etc

When I tried mine (admittedly metro Sydney), I was amazed to get a lost of over 200 ISP’s that could service my number

Never ever give up at complaining about Telstra as it works  - A friend is 8km from a city of 15000 Telstra - no lines but they gave him a land number and transferred to mobile but no internet -said July then put it off till December so went to countrywide and Telstra normal and ombudsman and 3 days later they offered the Hybis ?? for next to nothing. True as they had no other alternative - and remember the service guarantee of $38.50 every day they can not perform - I know a well known gliding identity got $4000 credit from the buggers.  Go to UR MPs as will but do not let them get away with one little thing.

After disconnecting my mobile once a month and then me  reconnecting next day AND CHARGING ME $35 each time finally one November Friday night Telstra said Mr McPhee Telstra owe you an apology.  I made them pay every cent I could and so they should.

Now is the time to act even if you are fat and happy with Telstra there are people out there still being treated like the scum of the earth.

.

So now is the time to act before it is too late.

Chris,

My top speed was 16.8 kbps here in the bush and Telstra called to offer us the Gov't subsidised Satellite Broadband at $196 instead of the normal $3000.

It works great. You should try for it as it is aimed to help us bushies get Broadband as well as the city folk.

Sobbing !!!!!!!!!!!!

I have 28.8 to 31.2 kbps here.

Wish we had the Nats here in SA.

Oh well, I can always go to the library in the township if I need the speed.

Hi all,

Little off subject but have you seen Google Earth, absolutely amazing access to satellite images world wide. the site offers continuous coverage of the whole globe via the browsing software (free download) resolution varies from area to area but you can make out individual people on the highest resolution! shows Long and Lat  of where you are viewing, measuring tools etc. so could be used for task setting etc!

Access is free unless you want their commercial version.

WARNING however - this is addictive and likely to burn up hours in front of your screen!!!

Cheers,

John Parncutt
