Subject: Re: [Aus-soaring] ACCIDENT &
INCIDENT REPORTING
Richard ..... ,
To be clear on what I have
requested from the Board, I am not advocating anything gory, nor am I
advocating names or aircraft rego or specific details on location or specific
aircraft type. But what I do say is needed is sufficient description and
generic definition of terrain, aircraft performance and location so that
members can understand the circumstances and what could have been done to
prevent of mitigate the accident or incident.
When you attend the GFA's present
Safety Seminars, which I found very worthwhile, that is exactly what you do,
with examples of circuit problems, outlanding problems, including videos and
SeeYou traces, that consider specific cases.
I think that the GFA is missing
out on a great opportunity to reinforce safety thinking in each magazine and
we as members are missing out on exposure to valuable lessons.
The cheapest way to think
thru safety lessons is to learn from the mistakes of others.
But I say again that I am not
advocating any gory details or libellous details.
Ian ..... ,
Accidents and Incidents are
reported within the GFA. The data is available at certain levels within the
organization. It appears that it is just not available to the members. My
position is that this is better handled well by the GFA and not be CASA. All
the best.
Regards Geoff

& INCIDENT REPORTING
Hi guys,
You can add me as a yes to the poll question
too. I
think the issue may hinge on how we get these reports
... which
is probably closely related to the potential
defamation/liability issues
eluded to by ops. Putting
all the gory details in the magazine is
probably not
the best idea from a marketing point of view anyway,
so
perhaps a seperate newsletter generated by the ops
panel & sent to
CFI's is the answer? I came back to
gliding 6 years ago & have since
been alarmed at the
lack of 'safety consciousness' there is in gliding
ops
compared to other forms of aviation that I have
experienced (GA
& military). I think a large part of
that is due to the fact that we
no longer read regular
accident & incident
reports.
