I had a glider pilot friend who had a job flying out of Groote. It was his
first commercial avaition pilots job. He had an engine failure when he was
couple of kms off shore and successfully ditched. The passengers, all local
islanders, just started swimming back towards the shore but he wasn't such a
good swimmer so he bobbed around till he got picked up. He now flies for
Qantas on 737s. He doesn't glide though which is a pity because he was a
good pilot.
I hope this is the start of a good carreer for you in aviation but don't
give up the gliding, you've got too much potential.

P.s. Flying for www.ausjet.com.au out of Groote Eylandt, NT. Flying a
C210 at the moment, and soon onto a Baron! The downside, is that I wont
be doing any gliding for 12 months :(
