A few weeks ago there was some discussion here about USB to serial
convertors and downloading loggers to PC's with USB ports only which
requires the use of USB to serial convertors.
I got a EW Model D in for calibration and I thought I'd check the
downloads on the various serial ports on the lab machine.
It is a 2.4 Ghz Celeron with serial ports on the motherboard. They were
a joke and I switched to a card with 2 serial ports which seems to work
OK. I also have a 4 way USB port expander and have a Belkin USB to
serial on on USB port(Hardly Normal's or other outlets $50 to $80), a
"Prolific" USB to serial on another(Jameco in California US$18) as well
as the Com1 and Com 2 serial ports. There is also a nother USB to serial
RS485 convertor for setting up and calibrating B400's
Results:
Worked perfectly on all 3 USB to RS232 devices.
Possible trap:
After physical connection and pushing the button and holding it down,
the Model D auto selects the port and you get "putting Model D in IO
mode" on screen. After a few seconds the changes to "awaiting
connection". Release the button at this time as otherwise it seems to
stay on this message.
