apologies, I didn't express clearly enough. I wasn't saying that Caboolture
is struggling, far from it, it appears to be doing quite well. I was only
quoting it as a site that focuses on training rather than European cross
country pilots.
I don't know how a commercial operation could exist with this arrangement.
There used to be a small operation at Bacchus trying this, it didn't last
too long. Gawler operates this way but only with volunteer instructors,
tuggies etc.
If we want to support the time poor, money rich market I am unsure what sort
of operation would be required to do this, one that can stay in business
over an extended time period.
Even the commercial sites that have a broader mix of offerings, such as
Tocumwal, are finding it non commercial.

A real pity from a national perspective. Tocumwal has been really the
last remaining full time commercial operation, providing excellent
training at quite a good price.
Given the recent discussion about the need for GFA to support/provide a
more commercially focused operation to attract the wealthy, time poor
people, this decision makes it seem less viable?
Maybe a facility close to Sydney or Melbourne would do better, focused
only on training? Given that Tocumwal appears to earn most of it's money
from the European cross country pilots, a training focused facility (such
as Caboolture)may struggle to be commercially viable?
Let's be clear here - Caboolture Gliding Club is neither struggling nor a
commercial organisation.
The Super Dimona operation out of Caboolture is not training focussed,
concentrating more (as I understand it) on AEFs although they do offer
training, and I have no idea how they are going.
