I've seen worse put back into operation, come to think of it I've seen worse flying! Remember all those flying with the crazed gel coat, and water logged Jantars. If we put a price on restoring these things then everyone would know just how damned crazy we all are. I havent done fibreglass restoration, only wood so far. My only concern about glass is the hours left on the airframe. I mean why would anyone put time into a glider with only 1000 or less to run? We all know the main issue with any aircraft is the metal that holds everything together. At least with wood you can just about get to every bolt and remove fittings to inspect. Even so its a time consuming thing. I would be happy if the owner of SB asked me to look at it and at least get an idea of its condition. I spoke to him about 5 years ago and he wasn't interested in doing anything at that time. Maybe things have changed.
Cheers all

That Hornet rotting in the back of the hangar at Forbes is in terrible
condition: I can't imagine it would be cost effective to get into the
air again, unless you happen to be a LAME. It's more like 20 years since
its last flight

Adam,
You aren't the only one doing this type of thing.
I like the idea of looking in the gliders at risk of deregistration.
Caleb
and I have procurred a couple of gliders that were on that list.
May I suggest a call to the owner of GSB, a Hornet at Forbes, hasn't
flown
for over 10 years, there is a Club Libelle there as well, don't know
the
rego. Same thing.
Perhaps you could consider syndicating with someone as well.
Cheers
