Yes the hot water is gas on demand.  We are also quite
frugal (efficient) on our other energy uses.  

It is a two storey townhouse.  A whirligig air vent plumbed
in through the ceiling extracts a lot of hot air from
upstairs in the summer (we close the vent for winter).  Best
bit of work on the place that I ever did.  For less than
$100, I managed to significantly reduce the upstairs
temperature and save us from using the aircon on many
evenings - it has saved us a lot of kW hours.
