At the risk of being railed against again by the "You only want the gory
details" mob, I ask whether any of you have considered Kevin's article on P22
of the June 2007 Soaring Australia, and whether you consider it a little
incongruous.
At the end of para 1 Kevin mentions the 4 fatals and states that "The high
rate of fatal accidents in our sport in recent years is most disturbing and
unacceptable".
That is certainly correct.
The incongrous bit, I feel, is that apart from Kevin's para of narrative on
this subject, the fatals each get 6 or 7 short lines, each of which contain
something like 10 or 15 words describing what happened, but none of which would
allow the membership to learn any details about real cause, or on which we can
improve our practices.
And even more incongruous is the fact that these issues are so "disturbing
and unacceptable" that the reporting period chosen by the GFA was 1st January
2006 - 1st April 2007.
I suggest, again, that this issue needs more exhaustive reporting and
shorter reporting periods.
Just imagine how brief they'd be and how often they wouldn't be reported if
this wasn't so "disturbing and unacceptable".
I say that this just isn't good enough.
Now I wait to be told again, as I was last time I raised this, that the GFA
staff are so overworked or volunteered-out that this is all that can be
produced or expected.
