Mr Rowe (Mark)

Thank you for your insight into Narromine politics!

I have looked at the issue of not filing OLC logs as a big loss to
potential customers from overseas concerning my own club (GCV) recently.
(yes, I am an offender also :-0)
Your point is quite valid not only for letting people see how far we fly
from each site, but downloading and logging would also builds a great
competitive spirit between clubs.
OLC is a fantastic tool for all of us, however those un-nerdish (who
wont be reading this anyway, probably still reading a magazine by
candlelight -and good on them!) are slow in oz to contribute.
When Sportavia went down there were gazillions of flights attributed to
the club and area (Tocumwal) which was a huge drawcard for pilots
checking us out for their winter relief in Europe, the UK, Japan and the
US. Now that Corowa has taken the mantle in the riverina area, less
flights (I may be corrected here) are being shown, although it was their
first season without TOC.

Anyway, I hate whinging without giving a option, so how abouts-

Flight times are generally logged at the field, this gives us an easy
number to keep track of to start with-
Each club fines each pilot $0.20 per minute of flight NOT downloaded to
the OLC!
A 1 hour 20 minute flight gets you a $16 fine!

At the end of the month, fines are tallied from each offending club
member and put towards an agreed, universal cause, club FLARM units,
Junior training or whatever.(maybe even logger units to the poor)
The figure is rubbery, perhaps a warning or $0.05 cent fine for the
first flight after notification?
Maybe the fine is too low?
What say you all?

Here is the blatant GFA do something bit-
GFA need to send each club (and each club its individual member)
DETAILED steps as to how they can access, download and keep track of the
OLC.
This access may be needed at the clubhouse or in the members home or
maybe an club individual geeky type can act as a minder for a while.
It could be a challenge, since the OLC has had infrastructure issues
recently themselves with server and software issues, however the
benefits will be worth it for gliding in general.

Imagine the punch we will have for CASA next time there is an airspace
grab if we can offer the exact number of kilometers, hours, heights and
pilots who fly in the area!
The OLC is a great idea, put out there at no cost to the user.

Anyhow, me fingers are worn out again.

Wayne Carter
