G'Day John

Take care with your cynicism - VERY soon we
expect that CASR Part 149 NPRM will be issued and
this one DOES affect glider pilots! It will set
the criteria by which the GFA may administer
gliding for perhaps the NEXT 60 years. Also it
will mean that a close-off date for comments on
Part 103 (which includes the operating rules for
glider pilots) can be finalised. It is expected
that both rule sets will close for comment on 24
September 2007, so be prepared to make your
comments if you want to have them taken into account.

If you want the GFA to have any say in the runway
criteria for the Eta 2, Nimbus 5D or ASG33 then
you had better get your comments ready to put in
to this lot when they go public. (We will let
you know when, but expect it SOON.)

P.S. CASA does have to consult with everybody -
one of the joys of living in a democracy. It can
be a right royal pain in the bum but it is very
important to the way we all get to have the
freedom to fly the things that don't have any
importance to defence, national security or big
business and the multinationals. Gliding may even
outlast them all when energy criteria get really
sensitive (and don't forget hang gliders may be even more "pure").
