Another suggestion in the hunt for a +5V power supply for PDA's is a KA-1797
Kit produced by JAYCAR.

I have one of these kits working at the moment and it seems to do the job. Its
only a 1.5A output at 5.12vdc, so the LM317T Semiconductor (voltage reg) runs a
but hot, when charging my fully flat HP Ipaq RZ1710, so a semi decent sized
heat sink is needed, but when toping up the PDA the voltage reg runs at a more
happy temp level.

One point to note is one of these kits are used and installed into a glider you
must insulate the heatsink from your instrument panel as, not insulating it
will cause a dead short to "negative" and Ella somoka ! if your instrument
panel is bonded to the neg on the aircrafts battery.

It would be a great compliment to anyone's instrument panel to keep your panel
virbator warm and ready to go !

The output voltage with a bit of maths would be able to be adjusted to a bang
on 5.00vdc if a variable resistor was used in setting the adjust leg of the
voltage reg not a standard 1.2k resistor as supplied.

Cost

kit $ 6.95
Heatsink $ 5.00
and using your MasterCard -- Priceless

Hope this helps

Ben

  Subject: [Aus-soaring] 5V Power supplies

  Hi All,

A quick note regarding 5v supplies for PDA's.

In a previous post someone asked about switchmode, high efficiency supplies.

A good cost effective option is here then type into "find" 361-4804.

For some reason stupid site won't deep link.

  $24.95
