............while over in the South East (Bunyan) we enjoyed perfect autumn conditions for the end of Daylight Saving; thermals to A095 afforded wonderful views of the first snow of the year over the main range.

Subject: Re: [Aus-soaring] Extremely BORING flying related stuff South Australia had a rather pleasant Autumn weekend. Saturday saw good soaring despite some high and midlevel cloud covering the area to the north. A few of us flew out to the Riverland and found that conditions were best south of Waikerie so managed to fly 300km or so. Sunday saw similar weather and we tried a different form of intraclub flying event. Gawler is a very mixed operation these days with more power planes than gliders on the field. A photographic scavenger hunt was arranged. A list of 14 items had to be found and photographed. Some were straightforward items and some allowed the entrants to use their initiative/imagination. This provided some interesting and funny photos put in for judging. The final object was to find as many cemeteries as you could and photograph them. The winner found 34 within 30km of Gawler! - things are pretty dead over here. The only down side was that not many entered. The event had two objectives - 1. have fun while flying and 2.to bring together the different members interests at a fun social event centred around what have in common - flying. All who were there agreed that 1 was met. 2 however failed miserably. This is our second attempt at trying to integrate the various types of flying into one club social event and both have failed. There's a message here and I'm wondering how many times we have to beat our heads against it before we will wake up and smell the coffee! sigh.
