I think Arabian Night Enterprises stopped supplying the lamp as sandard after the serious inflation caused due to people wishing for more money after the loophole was found and made public where you could install a different driver (The manafacturers had just taken a higher end model, the Magic Ring, and changed the look then installed different drivers that disabled the money ability). They have replaced the magic lantern with the option of young Son or Daughter to do your bidding. This was not a popular move, as the abilities of the subejcts are nowhere near up to the standard of that of the magic lamp and it's affiliated Genie. Where the Genie was able to do any task except give you love, more wishes or money (without the patched driver), the children are only good for cleaning, and have a very high maintenance cost. Granted, the Genie was only ever good for three tasks and replacements were scarce, but people still preferred it, I suspect due to the novelty factor.
I believe that the Manual is unavailable after the unexpected 1993 attacks by Jafar on the warehouse where they were all being kept for safekeeping before being transported to the FAA head office for inspection and updating (God knows why they wanted them sent through, but we had to do it to avoid a fine).
