Following the issue as it progresses, Mark was on Triple J's Hack yesterday.
It can be heard at:

The mp3 doesnt appear to work just yet but the Windows WMA does. Nice to hear
some sensible and logical comments to counter the polyspeak.

Haha, well I can tell you now from working in a school, we do word filter
quite a bit. You'd be quite amazed if you saw how big the list is. Several
thousand words, with many different ways of spelling etc.

My sister's work email address is at a catholic school in Wangaratta.
If I need to contact her during working hours I have to think about nearly
every word I type.
I have had emails rejected for words I do not consider objectionable.
Can I assume that it is partly caused by the software purchased.

    Rooting for Mark's team :-)

BTW my dad's censorship for his MAN magazines back in the 1950's was to
hide them behind the valance on top of his wardrobe.
The small pantry folding ladder ensured there was an extra contribution to
my sex education. School stuff was all useless euphemisms.

The problem with this censorship is that it is more weasely than you
can possibly think.

For example, a newsletter we sent some years ago out was not received by
one reader. He used his school email address. The school filter blocked the pdf
newsletter because there was mention of a pilot whose name was Dick. And that's
a rude word.

Similar problems occurred with and mention of Willie, Willy, Roger and
Johnston.

However, other things like arse (not a US word), wanger, todger got
through as well as all discussions relating to the Blue Helmets team (except
where nudity was concerned).

It's all too hard, even for the honest folk... if there are any left.
