SInce Victoria is almost permanently under cloud, head north where the
weather is good. I am told that the best place to learn to fly in Australia
is Lake Keepit.

See http://www.keepitsoaring.com/

It is a 7 day a week club based operation. The main strip is huge and there
are about 5 additional runways so you can get good practice on landings. The
amount of unrestricted open space around Lake Keepit means somewhat less
restrictions on solo flights. There is good on-site and off site
accommodation, and the weekday tuition from Jenny Ganderton is excellent.

The ultimate gliding experience has to depend on what style of flying you
think you want to do... Thermal, alpine, ridge, wave etc.

If you are a flat lands flyer, then mountains can be terrifying. You may
have all of 12,000' with barely 300' over something solid. If this sort of
terror turns you on, then perhaps think of France, where the flying is
excellent, and you can eat more than a pie bro.

You might like the idea of wave flying, but for some, the idea of getting
into some lift in some place like Argentina, putting the needle on the red
line, and holding on for a day or so seems hardly like soaring :-)

Really, it does not matter where you fly. Being at cloud base (or above) is
the ultimate place to fly.
