Spot tracking devices have been installed in all gliders in 15 metre class for Day 5, Sunday 18 January 2009, of the Australian Multi Class Nationals being held at Benalla, Victoria. There are 15 gliders in Standard class today (one pilot has a lay day) - all gliders have a Spot allocated. Start gates for each class open 20 minutes after last launch of that class. The 15M task is an AAT (Assigned Area Task) of 3 hours duration for Open, Standard and 15 M being: Benalla Boree Creek - 50 kilometre radius area Shepparton - 30 kilometre radius area Goorambat - 5 kilometre radius area Benalla Minimum distance is 266 kilometres; Maximum distance is 571 kilometres. Median distance is 412 kilometres. The forecast is a blue day. Temperature forecast is 33C in Benalla. Thermal strengths should be an average of 5-6knots distorted thermals over the task. Maximum thermals strengths could reach 10knots. Heights forecast are approximately 7,000 to 8,000 feet. Wind is currently from the north at 2-3knots. We have some spots left over from the 15 metre class so we are also tracking the first 4 place holders in 18 metre class. Additionally we are tracking two Duo Discus (Discii?) in Open Class and Tom Gilbert as the only glider in Standard Class. The 18M class have the second turnpoint as Murchison East, with a 30 kilometre radius, and have a time of 3.5 hours. Min dist 295kms, Max dist 616kms, Med dist 453kms.
