My father posted this on the WGC list and asked me to also put it on this one. He is speaking of Allen Hudson at Waikerie. For those of you that don't know, Allen has been working on a project for the last year (I think, someone correct me if need be) of putting three jets on an ASW20. He has it mounted in a sort of triangle configuration above and behind the canopy, with the middle jet being fixed, and the two side jets hide-away.
I've seen it run, but not fly, and I can say, even not moving it is rather impressive. Hopefully someone will have some good pictures which, with Allens blessing, I (or someone else) can post/link here. Anyhoo, here's the message from Nigel Baker: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Hi All. Late yesterday Allen [Hudson] did a high speed taxi run in perfect conditions on 08 to lift off speed. Unfortunately failing light and time constraints resulted in him having to delay the actual test flight. 8.30 AM today, again in perfect conditions and on 08 with the best failed launch options Allen finally gave us an impressive demonstration. The acceleration rate was excellent and everything he hoped for with the aircraft lifting off around the taxi way. This was followed by a clean run close to the ground to a safe speed where he then went into an impressive climb and I mean impressive. Unfortunately at 600ft the climb was aborted due to fuel supply issues and Allen did an uneventful modified circuit. >From full power start of roll to 600ft was 1min 04 sec. Like a said an impressive rate of climb. Allen noted a vario reading almost at the top peg prior to aborting. He is working on mods to resolve the fuel supply rate issue this week so it won't be long before it flies again. Congratulations Al. Cheers.
