It appears the weekend was very good, particularly in South Australia, and
some very good flying took place. Congrats to the team at Gawler, I trust
they had as much fun as we did at Bordertown.
It goes to show that gliding is a very priveliged sport. Some would call it
lots of other things but what we have to remember is that we are elite
sportspeople and in most cases very good at what we do. It doesn't matter if
we don't go racing or chasing records or getting away from a winch launch
for an hour or so of just as much pure fun, what matters is that we continue
to learn and do our personal best in all aspects of our sport.
So what if your glider isn't the latest, or in Mikes case the best looking,
the thing about our sport is that we as pilots can do extrodinary things.
The bottom line is we fly for a reason, mostly because we as humans are
doing something we are not designed to do. We want to push ourselves into an
area of our lives that few fellow humans do.
In most cases the smiles on all those glider pilots at work yesterday and
today says it all. They know the weekend is only a day away and its only a
short week of work before doing it all again.
So endeth the lesson
Pastor Patch.
PS. Thanks Rev. JR for remembering the help we get from fellow pilots in
achieving our enjoyment. Be it launches, holding wingtips or just being a
sympathetic ear when it all goes wrong and you don't get away or land out
and come and get you. They know that they could be in the same position next
time. I guess thats the kind of thing this sport does to people and one of
the reasons that all the talk at a gliding field is usually around what we
do and subjects like politics and world events just don't really get in the
way. Certainly the only religion we talked about was the Church of Ten Knots
and its development and if we ever get too bloody serious then I hope we are
all struck down.
Thanks everyone from all over for a great weekend.
