Gawler used to run an annual easter regatta/competition but after a long break
this only started
again from 2008. Still a small event, it hasn't yet returned to the 50 +
entries of it's hey day. This
year we had 15-20 pilots with 10-13 gliders flying each day.

Day 1 was a typical Gawler blue day 4-5000 feet and late starting.
Unfortunately, the weather did
a 'Queensland' on us and stopped at 4pm sharp, so only the two earlier
finishers on the 2 hour
AAT - Graham Parker and Pual Clift made it home.

Day 2 was better, still blue but with climbs over 6000 and even some
convergence cumulus closer
to 7000 feet we had much better speeds. Graham Parker won again from John
Nicholls over a 2.5
hour AAT.

Day 3 was even better. Still blue but 9500 feet and 115 kph from John Nicholls
won him the day,
with a few flights just on 300km in the 2.5 hours.

Day 4 was the Cu day we had been waiting for. A trough set up to the north with
Cu at 11,500
feet. 149kph won Graham Parker the day. John Nicholls' final glide was approx
160km. The newer
pilots achieved some personal bests and the coaching in the DG1000 and Grob 103
saw all with
big smiles.

Lyn Ritchie was contest director and did a great job running the event.

We look forward to seeing more people next year.
