Hi Scott and others

I have just installed XCSoar on the Ipaq 312, it seems to work fine on the ground, I have not flown with it as yet. The set up pdf available with the 312 XCSoar download suggested to use the serial- bluetooth adapter saying that the GPS in the PNAs is built for driving and therefore the altitude information may not be reliable. Whilst I am not an expert on GPS engines, I would think that it it produces altitude information, it is likely to be as correct as any other GPS. Having said that, when I am driving with it, it does fluctuate a bit. I have also found a program called Wedge, that is able to take data supplied by serial to USB converter and present it to the Win CE device. It is US$135 though.

I didn't write the manual, and there are so many PNAs on the market it is bound to be true for some :-) But I do agree wit h you. I personally think that the GPS would be fine. Many of the driving GPS software use the GPS position and quantatize it to the nearest road, thus it sometimes jumps around. On my driveway, it often thinks I am on the road.

But I would guess that they are using a standard GPS mostly internally.

There needs to be some work done to make the install easier (oh for more time) - but tell me how you go putting it on the iPaq.

Scott
