A club libelle 'stalled' on a winch launch in 1986 at Leeton. The trim was found in the full back position. The inquiry did a lot of testing of the trim mechanism at the time. The pilot was on his 2nd flight in a single seater and was observed setting the trim correctly. There was some question about the influence / failure of the backrest also. I have found it good practise to not just put trim full forward where it can be past the teeth but have it positively locked one or two teeth back.
