G’day Race Fans!

After another successful junior nationals – thanks to Angus ‘Gus’ Stewart (CD),
‘Super John’ Hudson and his hard working team at the Waikerie Gliding Club. I
thought I had better get started early to try and top another great event!
Lead by a positive junior pilots meeting in December 2010, it was my job to put
it all into action. What was said at this meeting? That JoeyGlide was to be
held in Queensland for the first time since the event began in 2004, and the
rest was up to the juniors to decide: Dates and configuration of the gliders.

So after two months of ringing around, writing e-mails, and generally gathering
the thoughts and views of the juniors for their preferences – it’s with my
pleasure that I can announce that the 8th Australian Junior Gliding Nationals
will be held at the Kingaroy airfield! Particular thanks of course must go to
the members at the Kingaroy Soaring Club (www.kingaroysoaring.com.au) for their
support and enthusiasm! I’d also like to thank Ross McLean, Anita Taylor and
their positive sports committee for Australian Gliding. They’ve both been of
great help to ensure that our competition is held at the best time for us all,
at the chosen site and not at conflicting times to the other senior nationals.
So please join in thanking these key people to make our competition an amazing
event!

I’ve started the organisation early so to help the juniors plan well ahead, set
goals, save money, etc. JG every year is a success, regardless of numbers.
Why? It’s the amazing culture that it brings, everyone is there to have a good
time. As John Hudson described from the JG10 comp, “It’s a senior nationals
really, great people but all without the ego’s!”. The juniors are an extremely
safety conscious lot of pilots, as they seem to be really concerned how they’re
looked upon by their senior peers – I guarantee you’ll all be very impressed of
you’re able to make it to JoeyGlide for a look!
