Hi Gary Thanks for you support and questions.
We've done a couple of things to mitigate the European conditions; firstly we had a training week at Kentucky in NSW with very challenging conditions (see report on the website) and we have enlisted the help of a local German competition pilot to give the team advice on the local terrain and conditions. In addition we have Alex Wallis with us who has some expertise in weather data interpretation (He also speaks good German - so we may be lurking on the German Team's radio frequency). Allowing the pilots to concentrate on flying and not being distracted by other problems is a priority. It's hard enough to fly in a World Comps without any unwanted distractions. I hope to have daily updates on the Website and Blog as in the past. There is actually a new update there today http://germany11.ausglidingteam.com/ This year the organisers also have a Twitter link for up to the minute reports http://twitter.com/#!/jwgc2011 It is usual for the organisers to ask for a recent Weight and Balance form (we are currently on our 3rd version of this particular form!!) just one of the many hoops that we have to jump through. These forms are normally provided by the glider owner, although the gliders are all carefully weighed at the beginning of the competition and on most contest days. WRT the gliders Nick ASW28 Comp no PC Andy ASW28 Comp no PV Nathan Cirrus Comp no YU Matthew LS1f Comp no 1F (but this may change as there are two 1F regos) This information is also available on the official site http://www.jwgc2011.de/entries.php I think that was everything? enjoy Mandy -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Sunday, 17 July 2011 8:01 PM To: Discussion of issues relating to Soaring in Australia. Subject: Re: [Aus-soaring] Junior World Gliding Championships Musbach Hi Mandy, Good luck to you and Peter, and especially to the selected pilots - they are without doubt the cream of the OZ Junior crop. I am certain they will give it their all. It will be interesting to see what weather Musbach turns on for the comp, and how our boys handle the conditions. It is a given that conditions will be VERY challenging ... but hopefully for only some of the time. {I am assuming here that European pilots (due to their local knowledge of the site and experience of European conditions), will potentially do better than our representatives, when things are very marginal ... what do you think? As TC how are you addressing this issue?} Our pilots are elite ... the rest of the crew looks good too. This should mean that the pilots are able to really concentrate on the main tasks, and leave the non-flying essentials to you and the other crew! I am looking forward to your (daily?) reports, and photographs, given the great job you have done on these aspects in the past. Hopefully the pilots can also fit in the odd blog or two also! A personal thanks to Heath for all the good work he has done in the past. An unsung hero for sure ... and here he is doing it again! Hey mate, when are you going to do some comp flying again? Mandy, I was interested to see on the official web site, all the guff that is now required to be supplied to the organisation on weight and balance for each competing glider. Is this something new? What gliders are the team flying? Rego numbers? I assume they will all be hired? Are any/all the pilots bringing their own panel, or favourite instruments? There must be some good (or horror?) stories to be told on these aspects alone? Hint, hint. Will it be necessary for the team to do a weight and balance for each of the team's gliders on site (or elsewhere), in light of these requirements?
