It doesn't do any harm to speculate as you get to
realise all the failure modes that can lead to
the same outcome. An official report usually finds just one.
At least in this case there will be a report. I
don't expect we'll ever see anything sensible out
of our quite similar accident on April1.
As for the Coroner getting on his high horse
about the circumstances of the Hempel accident
I'd remind everyone that what you read in the MSM
isn't always the whole truth and note that the
ATSB didn't investigate that accident. I also
haven't seen anything in print about mechanical
failure definitively being ruled out. Note the
wreck was left on the bottom of the ocean and not recovered.
