It doesn't help people like Ted at all and doesn't change any medical
criteria and comes with significant restrictions.
Day VFR, single engine, only one other person in the aircraft,
aircraft weight limit.
It is hardly a "driver's licence medical". It is a PPL medical done
by a GP that saves you a whole $75 every two years and has
restrictions. Pay the $75 and you get rid of the restrictions.
If you won't pass a PPL medical you won't get the RPPL medical. How
does this help anyone? There are plenty of people flying gliders and
motorgliders without problems who can't/wouldn't pass a PPL medical.

Looked into it, it's definitely a con job.
No it is not. It saves anyone who has nothing medically wrong with
them from having to pay a DAME and sending it in to CASA for a
$70.00 rubber stamp. I cannot believe CASA are giving their nice
little earner up!
However, I am sorry to hear that you have medical problems that
sound pretty innocuous to me as a GP, and that the CASA medical
branch are being so obstructionist.
