Hi there Ron and Stuart, Thanks for your interest in SpeedWeek. It's an initiative of mine, and this will be the third one. its aim is to provide top end competitive training, and to be a friendly introduction to competition for those who'd like to try it in an amiable environment. We've had some very successful pilots cut their teeth on SpeedWeek. The first two attracted full house attendance, and favourable comment. This third one has attracted a lot of applications and in theory is booked out. But there is some slippage when it comes time to pay ($150), so it's worth registering any interest. I decided to run SW13 at West Wyalong after spending a week there with Bathurst Soaring Club late last year, during which time the weather was superb and the town proved to be very hospitable and convenient to the aerodrome. SW13 will be run in conjunction with the BSC, November 3rd to 8th, the week after their own coaching camp. The aerodrome has one sealed strip and a gravel cross strip, grass verges which will need rolling. The council is willing to do that. The only movements are the flying doctor, a local pilot who has a Jabiru in a hangar, and a helicopter doing geological work. It's wonderfully glider friendly. The council has indeed been very supportive and would like to see more of us. I'd like to float a couple of ideas; one, that a group of like minded pilots organise a week there to pursue long distance and record flights; two, that we run a NSW State Comps there, as a precursor to a Nationals at some later date. I'm prepared to be involved in organising either alternative if anyone's similarly interested. All the best, Paul Mander. 0417 447 974.
