This is discussed in Helmut Reichmann's book as well as most sailplane design texts. Funny thing is, when I look at the graphs, current sailplanes are all flying at wing loadings way above the optimum according to the calculations. I doubt many people don't simply fill right up to gross weight and dump if necessary.
