Might try the process is for doing it the other way around: Getting a
CASA GPL through the FAA one. Is there a Commercial GPL?
According to the (insert explicative here) manual, a plastic card
licence is not ICAO compliant. Would imagine the FAA card especially out
of compliance without a photo and the condition:
ENGLISH PR CIE T
(it's a bit worn out)
This thread is a good reminder that my CASA Special Pilot Licence has
an old photo, but not taken when I was ten. Obtaining the SPL was
user-friendly, and ready in two days. The ASIC badge took longer.

They’ll “recognize” that in the same way they recognize an Australian Part 61
license, in that the FAA will make you jump through the same hoops to turn it
into an American one before you can fly an N-registered glider.
Now that CASA offers an ICAO-compliant Glider Pilot License, other ICAO
contracting states are likely to defer to them for license equivalency. You may
find that France is less accommodating now than it was a year ago (and if they
haven’t changed yet, just give them time…)
