The Otway Ranges produce plenty of good wave. I tend to think it is shear
wave because it works when there is no wind on the ground - as well as
windy conditions.
The best flight has been with Geoff Vincent in my Taifun. We pulled out at
18000 ft. because we were using cannula, the wave was still working quite
well.
I can find wave of some type on most days and it is only 10 minutes flight
from YOLA. One spot is known as the elevator. Sometimes wave can be out to
sea and others inland.
My first encounter with wave over the Otways was in an Auster with Gordon
Wilson. Finished up pointing at the ground to get home.

One unexpected wave I came across was between Flinders Island and Lady
Baron Island, about 6 -700 ftpm over the water - quite narrow and long.

Happy flying,
John.
