The following issue has been SUBMITTED. ====================================================================== https://austingroupbugs.net/view.php?id=1697 ====================================================================== Reported By: rillig Assigned To: ====================================================================== Project: Issue 8 drafts Issue ID: 1697 Category: Shell and Utilities Type: Enhancement Request Severity: Editorial Priority: normal Status: New Name: Roland Illig Organization: User Reference: Section: make Page Number: 3103-3136 Line Number: several Final Accepted Text: ====================================================================== Date Submitted: 2023-05-07 12:24 UTC Last Modified: 2023-05-07 12:24 UTC ====================================================================== Summary: Consider replacing out-of-date with not up-to-date Description: In the specification of the make utility, the term up-to-date occurs 45 times, the (supposedly opposite) term out-of-date occurs 12 times. To make the specification conceptually simpler, it would suffice to use only the term up-to-date consistently throughout the whole specification. Desired Action: Reword the 12 places that use the term out-of-date to use the negated form of the corresponding up-to-date instead.
Alternatively, explicitly define that out-of-date means the exact opposite of up-to-date, and that there is no range of undefinedness between them. ====================================================================== Issue History Date Modified Username Field Change ====================================================================== 2023-05-07 12:24 rillig New Issue 2023-05-07 12:24 rillig Name => Roland Illig 2023-05-07 12:24 rillig Section => make 2023-05-07 12:24 rillig Page Number => 3103-3136 2023-05-07 12:24 rillig Line Number => several ======================================================================
