sounds better for me, now. 

I'd even say "offers considerable functionality" or similar as for 
everyday use, the image manipulation functionality offered in OOo is 
IMO mostly sufficient unless you really need sophisticated functions.

The Guides should describe/accentuate the possibilities of OOo in first 
place. Of course thereafter, they can/should give hints to other 
software as well.
