Does anyone here have experience with indexing user guides, or want to learn? All of the books need to have indexes created or updated. Most chapters have some index entries in them, but these entries are often incomplete or in some cases incorrect (for example, the name of some feature was changed in the text but not in the index entry).

Writer provides the tools for inserting index entries and takes care of the page numbers when the index is compiled, but a human needs to choose the index terms and the topics in which those terms are marked as index entries.

Aside: Indexers can use a concordance file to partially automate the task, but they still need to select the terms and then edit the results (which often include many irrelevant pages). Concordances can work well for reference manuals but in my limited experience are more trouble than they are worth for user guides.

BTW, we've made several attempts in the past to recruit indexers to the team, but so far we've had no luck. The group has had to rely on me, and I don't have time to do it all. Also I have to admit that I don't enjoy indexing, so I tend to just not get around to it.
