Hello,

I hope I am not breaking too many rules, but I'd like to help out with writing
documents. How exactly do I get started? Sorry for bothering.

It looks like your message got lost in another email conversation - you replied to an existing email conversation on a different topic instead of starting a new message. Not a problem, but next time, start a new message when you want to start a new topic instead of replying and changing the subject on an existing topic so that everyone catches your messages.

You're more than welcome to jump in and help out with the Documentation project.

We have two main mailing lists: [email protected], for discussions related to project infrastructure and policy, and [email protected], where writers, editors, reviewers, and others discuss documents they are working on.

We recommend you subscribe to each of these mailing lists.

To subscribe to the dev list, send a blank email to [email protected]

It appears you're already subscribed to the [email protected] mailing list, so you're half way there :-)

To get an overview of the project, look at the Documentation Wiki at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation There you will find most of the documentation that we have available for OOo. The box on the top right of the Documentation Wiki, "Want To Help?" contains some helpful information to you get started.

Work on the user guides mainly takes place through the OOoAuthors website, http://oooauthors.org/english/. Those docs are then made available through the Documentation wiki.

Most of the other materials produced and maintained by the Documentation Project, including how-to's, tutorials, and FAQs, as well as documents for system admins, programmers and developers, are Wiki-based. You should set up an account on the Wiki as well.

You are welcome to join in at any level you wish. Please introduce yourself to the team here once you've subscribed to both of the mailing lists, and don't be shy about asking questions on the list when things are unclear.
