Unfortunataly (the installation changed), because the java-installer of SO8 is not available for OOo, and that's why the install guide of SO is different to OOo!@Daniel: If you need help, then cry! Our member merowinger (responsible for this doc) an me (Marko) will help you.
Or , if this is not possible, we think about a German V2-Version (and as soon as possible) an english Translation of it.
Well, in this instance, there are two limiting factors:
1) I have other OOoAuthors work already (e.g. Working with Graphics).
2) The only operating system I have is Solaris, which is the one fewest OOo users have. For V1 this wasn't a problem because the installation was the same for everyone. But that's changed in V2.
OK! At the moment a short installation-guide in german is near completition. It' under PDL and I'm the co-author for the Linux-Part. But we still look for a solaris part. Perhaps you can post us a short discription for solaris? The linux installation is text based, the solaris too?
I would be happy to review a chapter if someone else wrote it. And later into the future, when my other work is done, I could write a chapter if people send me screenshots and explain the procedure to me.I will discuss it in the German Section of OOoAuthors and with the other author of the short install guide.
Perhaps we can create a good base for an international V2 Install-Guide....
