Indeed... if the client doesn't want to display UTF8, I don't know what 
the server could do...  :-(

In my setup the feather is centered. [Firefox 1.0.4 on Win2K SP3.

It will be "roughly centered" for everyone but possibly not quite right. 
This is what I have:

If really centered the image it might be harder to position the text 
links around it.
