Here's my very non-technical understanding of spiders.A spider is a computer program that looks on the Web for a document and retrieves (copies) it and other documents linked to it. (A variation is a program that checks or validates links but does not retrieve the documents.)
In this case, Scott has written a program to copy the FAQs from OOoAuthors and add them to Docs.
