I don't have one of those around here. I always considered Daniel my Linux guru, but he's already said this isn't one of his areas of expertise.

*blush*

:-)

You already have a mechanism to restrict list postings to members. For gmane, there is no mechanism to prevent spurious postings going to the newsgroup but your existing mechanism would presumably prevent spurious postings going to the mailing list.

Assuming that's the way it works, that sounds like it would do what I want, which is to keep non-members' posts off the mailing list.

I concur.

Last thing I want is having to deal with spam in this list. And given that this is a development list, asking people to sign up is a very reasonable request.

I'll leave it to the others on this list to decide whether we set up a newsgroup or not. I have no interest in a newsgroup, but I don't have any major objections either.

I feel the same.

I don't see how a newsgroup would help us get more documentation done. But as long as we don't get spam, I don't see it hurting either. So I feel indiferent about it. If other people want it, by all means go ahead and do it.

Sidenote: There is no fundamental reason why it should be me setting up the newsgroup. I have no special access to this list. I'm a simply user just like everyone else. So it makes sense for someone who knows something about newsgroups to do it.

Cheers,
Daniel.
