with my german Keyboard I can write some of this Chars: á, é, è, ê, ô
First you should press the ´,`, or ^-Key followed by the a or e-Key.
Then Programm will displays the special carracters.
Thank you! I thought that was more or less what I needed to do, but
don't I have to press some other key along with the ´,`, or ^? Otherwise
I get `a, ^o etc. I've tried Alt, Ctrl, and various combinations, but
nothing seems to work.
This is an operating system feature called "dead keys" which can be
turned on and off. When it's off, you will always get `a, ^o, etc. When
it's on, it works like this:
* You press ^ -- no screen output.
* You press o -- ô appears on the screen:
OR
* You press ^ -- no screen output.
* You press space -- ^ appears on the screen:
Since you have Windows in English, it is unlikely that it is already set
to use dead keys. I don't know how to change this setting.
Incidentally, if anyone knows how to set up dead keys in Gnome I would
really like to learn.
Cheers,
Daniel.
