I installed several developer versions before the 2.0 release and didn't notice a problem. The latest Ubuntu release, 5.10 (Breezy) included OOo "2.0" but it was really 1.9.129. But it was installed automatically by the distribution.
Be happy that you never found a problem with developer builds. But to make a general rule from this is wrong. Developer builds are for testing, and may give hints about new fetures. But if you find a bug, the right way was to file an isse .. not to include it in the documentation.
