Back in December, John Kane wrote regarding the "Getting Started
with Macros" chapter:

This chapter however strikes me as very advanced
for a Getting Started Guide.
In the file itself, John also comments that it doesn't say
anything about recording macros, which is the way most newcomers
would get started using them.
I agree, the chapter is very advanced in comparison with the rest
of the Getting Started book. It was reprinted from the first
chapter of a technical book. The author and publisher of that
book were most generous in allowing us to use the chapter, in the
absence of one written specifically for the GS book.
I think the time has now come to replace this chapter with a
shorter one, written specifically for the non-technical audience
of the rest of the book. But to do that, someone needs to write
it... and I sure don't have time. Any volunteers? John Kane,
would you like to throw together a first draft? Anyone?
Meanwhile, as part of my project to issue a new edition of the
books, I plan to renumber the last 3 chapters of GS to move the
macros chapter to the end of it... a more logical place anyway,
IMO. I'll leave the old files, with the old numbers, as well, at
least for awhile -- just in case someone has links directly to
them. The chapters are:
Old New Title
15 17 Getting Started with Macros
16 15 Using Fontwork
17 16 Creating Web Pages
The printed version of the new edition will include Fontwork and
Web Pages (which are not in the current edition) but will not
include Macros.
