In the "Getting Started with Base" chapter is this statement: "The database in OOo requires Sun’s Java JRE."
This is a bit different from this statement in the revised Chapter 1, "What is OOo?": "Some OpenOffice.org features (wizards and the HSQLDB database engine) require that the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) be installed on your computer."
I am confused. Does the statement in Ch1 means that if you use other data sources (e.g., spreadsheet, dBase) in OOo Base, then you don't need Java; you only need Java for HSQLDB? Or is the HSQLDB engine running all database stuff and therefore JRE is always needed to use Base?
Can someone please clarify this for me? Thanks! --Jean
