I had a freeware application (my pornographic memory fails me about its name, though) which simply completely switched the entire desktop, along with its configurations, to/from any one of a half dozen or so setups. It was used back in my dreaded Windows Me days. I suppose that there's a comparable freeware app for XP. It worked well and didn't cost anything...

Couldn't another user account do much the same thing?

It doesn't look like it. If you try, you have the choice to modify,
repair, or uninstall. I think those are the choices, anyway. I know that
installing to another directory wasn't one of the options.

I have one "user" on my main Windows computer that I use for a default
installation of Windows and software with no changes, so I can use that
for screen shots. It allows more generic captures anyway, because the
windows aren't "tainted" by themes or modifications or whatever else,
and there's no desktop background or anything else that can cause
problems on a capture. I should do the same thing on my main Linux
machine, but haven't had a need yet.

But if there's a better way that doesn't involve switching users and
all of that, I'd love to hear it. Plus, I'm just curious what others in
the oooauthors community do.
