Do you still need volunteers for (English) documentation? I'm
relatively new to OpenOffice, so I'd probably be better off checking
someone else's work than writing from scratch. I was just trying to
learn about some formulas this weekend, if the Calc team needs any
help with basic items.
Tried to join the site (as eashack with this email address), but as
you're all aware, it is not letting new people register.
Hi Elizabeth,
Welcome to OOoAuthors! I am the lead editor here, and the main
coordinator for all of the books. I just got back from a 5-week
trip to Europe (I live in Australia) and am trying to catch up on
a huge backlog of work.
In addition to what Gary said about the Writer Guide, a top
priority right now is to check these published chapters of the
Writer Guide against the V2.0.4 software:
* Using Mail Merge
* Using Forms in Writer
* Printing with Writer
The tricky bit about these, and other chapters in all books, is
spotting what has been added to the program itself that is not
covered in the chapter, as well as finding anything that has
changed (including bug fixes; a few chapters have described
workarounds that may not be needed if people are using 2.0.4).
For example, I think some of the Mail Merge chapter may need to
be changed, for example in the section on removing blank lines in
addresses; the program itself may have been changed to make this
easy.
The Printing chapter needs some additional material on creating
PDFs (Chapter 1 says this is in the Printing chapter, but it
isn't, though that is the logical place for it). I think this
chapter is also a good place to include something on the "send
document as email" features, which are not covered elsewhere in
the book.
I hope someone has been able to register you at the OOoAuthors
website. If not, you should still be able to download those
chapters by following the links from the first page of the
English language part of the website (you don't need to be logged
in to see those links)... or I can email them to you if you're
having difficulty with the website. I can also help with
uploading revised chapters if you are unable to do that.
There is also some work to be done on the Calc Guide, if you're
interested. We very much need someone to review a new chapter on
the Data Pilot. The link to that chapter is on the Review List,
which you can see only after logging in. If you can't log in, but
would like to work on that chapter, let me know and I can email
it to you.
Regards, Jean
