We should not start getting involved into a long, tiring,

Windows screenshots any more.

Stick to a UNIX OS for screenshots and for UI features
that are unique to Windows, just display the relevant part
of the screen without including any OS elements to be on the
safe side

Just be aware that if we have a policy that the only screenshots that are permitted are from Unix systems, then anyone who doesn't use Unix (myself as an example) is precluded from contributing anything that requires screenshots.

I see no reason whatsoever to decline to use screenshots from Windows in OpenOffice.org user documents. As long as the document gives credit to Microsoft's trademarks, we meet the requirement stated in Sigrid's original note about what the Microsoft person said. I can easily change the wording on our copyright pages to specifically mention Microsoft. This is standard practice in technical writing and publishing.
