Everything appears OK until the first time the TOC is updated. Then it's poof! Going back into the Outline dialog box, you'll see that the top three or four elements (always?) were deleted after a styles import.

Perhaps, some posters might share their experiences with this behavior before our writing something which may be incomplete or inconclusive. This has been around for as long as I used it (meaning: at least as far back as last March).

Did you include anything about having its contents being lost (deleted) whenever styles are imported into its file? If not, this needs to be taken into account because it messes up the ToC, etc.

Ayup, another glitch. Finally, I set that outline-numbering thing while editing the template, i.e., in the template itself, and that seems to work (chapter numbers haven't disappeared in a while). /tj

I revised some small sections of this chapter to mention the Outline Numbering dialog and its relationship with ToCs; the previous version was incomplete and therefore misleading. I made some other minor changes as well. Change tracking was on.
