Regarding a Base Guide, if there is anyone interested in working on that
and they could use any help - with anything - please accept my offer to
help. If you have a question about how to do something with Base, need
some examples, some screen shots - anything!
I don't need any type of acknowledgment's for the help - really - none
at all.
You can contact me directly or via the lists I don't care. But someone,
that can write well, needs to get working on this....PLEASE.
I can write, and I'd love to write the Base Guide, but I have two
major problems:
(1) Lack of time, unless more people start doing maintenance work
on the existing documents. (See my other note to the list.) And I
want to see the Calc Guide finished before I put much of my own
time into the Base Guide.
(2) Lack of enough experience with databases to even know what
questions to ask in many areas. It's been years since I did
simple dBase and MSAccess database work.
We need to start with developing an outline for the Base Guide.
There is a tentative outline on the website, but I think it needs
expansion.http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/database/outline.html
I think Dan Lewis's "Getting Started with Base" chapter could do
well as the first chapter of the book. And maybe the data sources
Dan set up for that chapter could be used as sources for examples
in other chapters. Dan, what do you think?
If I had time (which I don't), I would go through the forums and
user lists looking for questions that people ask. (Some of these
could be developed into FAQs, in addition to going into the Base
Guide.)
I have not looked at the Datamodel and Datadictionary that are in
the Database Guide folder, so I don't yet have an opinion on
them. http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/database/
Comments, suggestions, anyone? How about people to "mine" the
forums and lists for Q&A's?
