No we are back again and the performance is now on a 'green level'.
The problem was/is that we are still have a database with over 7GB.
If the space for the site is near the quota of the user starting
plone, the plone/zope instance will slow down and die (as it was last
hours).
At the moment I've fixed it deleting some stuff and logs (perhaps
someone of the enthoungh team grants a little bit more space too....).
But the main problem is still alive! I've check all folders and it
seems that really the member folders are the problem, not the normal
folders with our OOoAuthors.org stuff in it.
I've crated a local copy of our content (without the user accounts and
member folders) for the worst case, the site will crash.
But I believe we had to delete the member folders soon :-(

Just what might be in those member folders? AFAIK, I never entered
anything/viewed any of them. Could it be that some/much of that content
is really ancient or from members no longer active and,in any event,
should much of that be disposed after a certain passage of time--unless
it's renewed?
