Hello Gary,

I am preparing 0209WG (working with tables) and I am at the point
where I am checking the applied styles for consistency. Which template
should I import the styles from?
I tried opened the latest version of the template you uploaded
http://oooauthors.org/en/authors/userguide2/writer/chapter_template_V%202.4.0%20%2819%20April%29.odt
But there are quite a number of things that don't look right:
OOoTextBody is no longer indented, but OOoTableText still is
OOoHeading1 and OOoHeading2 are now centered

I don't know if this is related to the general issue with OOo 2.4 or
if instead you intentionally made these changes.

We really need to raise the profile of the issue of styles being
changed autonomously by OOo 2.4 as it is really unworkable at present.
The version of the working with tables chapter that Jean uploaded is
all over the place when opened iwth OOo 2.4.
I thought that the issue was that I might have opened and saved the
file with DEV300m6 as OOo3.0 will use a new ODF version, but I am
almost sure that I did not do that.

Cheers,

Michele
I have been using version 3.0 the past two days and will switch to the next developer snapshot when it's released in another day or two. It doesn't appear to have the version 2.4.0 bug with those recently discovered features.

I am changing the "template's" styles somewhat piecemeal and experimentally at this time. Changing the definitions of those changed styles should not make any real difference to any writer or editor, as long as the styles are applied the same.

Lately, I tried centering the two highest-level subhead paragraph styles because the two-lined version of the left-aligned first-level subheads had a somewhat weird appearance over the centered variety when editing the fields chapter. I still kept the lower border for the first-level subhead. Also, I thought that a fourth-level head was included to the collection, but my memory fails me now about that.

In any event, I will upload the version 3 template later today (in the Writer Guide folder) and, perhaps, also in the published chapters folder.

Also, I made the page margins more systematic (and less arbitrary?) and didn't include any of the former body text left-side indentation of the entire paragraph (which made the body text asymmetric--uncentered) for the basic paragraph body text used for our writing.

The list styles used in conjunction with the paragraph styles for list items seem to work. The lists now are more compact vertically, with less space between items. The horizontal spacing is now set via using both a list and a paragraph style together for list items. The final item (or one before another element, such as a figure) has more vertical spacing at the end than that used for the other list items. Those styles have descriptive names somewhat similar to the list FrameMaker tags (styles) used when I was a tech editor for Motorola/Freescale Semiconductor during much of 2005.

Because version 2.4.0 may have changed many of those paragraph styles for list items in the chapter you worked on, I cannot be sure if both a paragraph and list style were used simultaneously for those list items. (I redid those...)

A template guide (or writing within the "template" needs more practical examples). Tables haven't been modified much, if any, save for the Note/Tip/Caution tables. I horizontally centered the graphic in the Caution table and centered the text vertically for all three tables in their second column.

More later.

Gary
