I used Michele's method, which is just a slightly simplified version of Thomas's method, and OOo3.0beta installed to a different directory all by itself. I think that is because it is a different version number (the previous install is OOo2). The same on Windows: I now have both OOo2.x and OOo3.0beta on the same machine. What I don't have -- and don't want -- is an entry in the Ubuntu menus. I don't know which of the 2 comes up if I double-click on an ODT file, but as my normal practice is to open the program first and then open a file from within the program, I don't care. --Jean
