I used Michele's method, which is just a slightly simplified version
of Thomas's method, and OOo3.0beta installed to a different directory
all by itself. I think that is because it is a different version
number (the previous install is OOo2). The same on Windows: I now have
both OOo2.x and OOo3.0beta on the same machine. What I don't have --
and don't want -- is an entry in the Ubuntu menus.

I don't know which of the 2 comes up if I double-click on an ODT file,
but as my normal practice is to open the program first and then open a
file from within the program, I don't care.
