BTW, the extraneous text on the template (the guide) should have
some simple instructions about selecting (Ctrl+A) and deleting it in
order to create a clean blank copy before its first use. Easy to do,
but it should be located at the very start of the template.
Yes, very good point. Thanks! I'll add that if Michele doesn't do it
during his update of the styles.
Upon further reflection, this is not a good idea at all. In fact it is
a very bad idea.
Using Ctrl+A to create a blank copy wipes out the ToC and any
indication of what is to go on the title page, thus leaving the author
with the necessity to remember which items to put in and which styles
to apply to them -- including the character style for the chapter
number. And the writer has to recreate the parameters set for the ToC.
All of that is a lot of unnecessary work and likely to lead to errors.
More disastrously, it wipes out the conditional hidden section, which
is essential when the chapters are compiled into a book. Most writers
won't even be aware it's there, nor do they have a need to know -- but
someone would have to recreate that section. More unnecessary work.
Finally, Ctrl+A wipes out the samples tables for Tip, Note, Caution,
and tables of data. This is a less important problem, especially if
people are using AutoText for these.

Have you been following that bug issue with the importing of styles
wiping out the ToC and possibly other items? It seems to have been
around for every iteration of OOo w/o being remedied. Is this related to
the Ctrl+A plus delete? Is there something other than delete that
accomplishes what we would like to happen?
